Useful to Know on the ST170 Car

This is where you can find some of the useful tips that you wouldn't find in your ST170 manual.

Handbrake light flickering when cornering or accelerating hard

If you noticed the handbrake light starts to flickers when you're cornering or accelerating very hard - this could mean your Brake fluid is getting very low - check it out ASAP and top it up with the correct Brake fluid.

Not getting the Torque from cold

You may notice that you are not getting the torque when you rev the car hard when the engine is cold - this is because it has a built in limiter until the engine is warm to prevent any damage to the engine. So go easy with the pedal until the temperature is right.

Rear Wiper

When you have the front windscreen's wiper on and when you reverse the car, the back wiper will activate automatically.

Tyre size

The standard tyre size for the ST170 is 215/45/R17.

Wet Floor on passenger side

If you have wet floor on the passenger side, it usually means the pollen filter is not fitted correctly or is not sealed up properly.

Fluid on floor or on the brake and clutch pedals

If you have fluid on the floor or on the clutch/brake pedals, it will have come from the brake fluid - TAKE CARE WITH TOUCHING THE FLUID! - common fail on the seals or the master cylinder itself.

The engine

The engine was designed to handle high revs. You can go as far as 7,000rpm on 2nd gear to achieve 70mph. Obviously by doing it, you will use up a lot of fuel. :) And also don't do it too often...

Types of petrol

The ST170's ECU was designed to perform better when using any fuel between RON 95 and RON 99. Examples fuel are BP Ultimate (RON 97), Esso Energy (RON 97), Shell V-Power (RON 99), Total Excellium (RON 97), and Texaco Super (RON 97)

Deadlocking the ST170

Pressing the Lock button on your keyfob once will lock the doors and activate the alarm. Pressing the lock button twice will lock the doors including deadlock, activate the alarm and flash the indicators. The deadlock will stop from anyone opening the door from inside, i.e. breaking the window and opening the handle from inside.

Auto Door Locking (source: Tourque Steer)

• 1. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine
• 2. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)
• 3. Turn off the ignition
• 4. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)
• 5. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine. A beep should be heard
• 6. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle and then pull the handle slightly to reopen again. A final beep should be heard and then start the engine.

Basically, once you set this up the doors will lock automatically more or less as soon as the car starts rolling, nominally @ 7kph. You'll still be able to open the doors by pulling the interior handle, but they won't be able to be opened from the outside. If you stop and open the door though they won't relock automatically unless you turn off the engine and restart - basically, it works once per journey, after that you have to do it manually. And in the event of an accident, the airbag system will unlock the doors automatically, so you don't need to worry about that aspect.

One click electric window close && open

Feeling lazy? Want to be able to press a button and the window will open or close in one go? Then follow the very simple steps. This can also be used on sunroof if you have one.

• Switch ignition ON.
• Press and hold window switch to fully close window. Continue to old switch for at least 1 second.
• Release switch.
• Press window close switch 3 times for at least 1 second.
• Press and hold window switch to fully open window. Continue to hold switch for at least 1 second.
• Release switch.
• Fully press and release window close switch.
• Ensure window closes fully.
• Fully press and release window open switch.
• Ensure window opens fully.
• Repeat procedure for remaining windows.
• Switch ignition OFF.

Global Windows Opening

To use the Global Windows Opening feature using your remote keyfob, ensure that you have followed the steps above for one click electric windows operation.

Basically, just hold down the Open button on the keyfob for a few seconds and all of the windows will go down. Hold down the Lock button for a few seconds and all of the windows will go back up. Don't forget to press the lock button the 2nd time to enable double locking (indicators will flash). ALSO! Make sure that there are NOTHING on the windows (i.e. suction cups for child sunscreen) otherwise you will burn out the motor!

• Engine Lifting Eye Nut - 35Nm (25.8lb/ft)
• Intake manifold inner section locknut and bolts - 18Nm (13.3lb/ft)
• Intake manifold inner section retaining stud - 10Nm (7.4lb/ft)
• Camshaft bolts - 15Nm (11.1lb/ft)
• Throttle Body bolts - 7Nm (5.2lb/ft)
• Ignition Coil Pack bolts - 6Nm (4.4lb/ft)
• Rear Arb Drop Links - 15Nm (11.1lb/ft)

Self Diagnostics Mode

The Self Diagnostics Mode gives you in-depth information about your engine and the actual numbers in digital. To use it, follow the steps:

• Insert Key but do not turn it on
• Press and hold the Trip Meter Reset Button
• While holding the reset button, start your car and continue holding the button
• Within 10 seconds, the display should change to "test" in LCD font and the needles will do a full sweeping. Release the Button

Pressing the button will now cycle through some 17 different modes

• 1.Shows a Gauge Sweep
• 2. Shows all 8's on the LCD (LCD TEST)
• 3. Illuminates all the bulbs on the dash
• 4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level
• 5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level
• 6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)
• 7. Digital Speedometer - mph
• 8. Digital Speedometer - kph
• 9. N/A
• 10. Digital tachometer
• 11.Fuel volume
• 12. Engine coolant temperature
• 13. Battery voltage
• 14. ABS fail
• 15. Electronic brake distribution (EBD) failure
• 16. Illumination
• 17. Crank Sense
